Tesla Motors (the geek appeal of the name alone is sweet) is making an electric car that does 0-60 in under 4 seconds … and goes 220 miles on a full charge (although maybe not if you're doing 100+ mph the whole way).

Holy fuck. That is soooooo insanely hot.

That car is freakin awesome. I'll take twelve and throw the ones I don't like in the ocean. Because if I can't turn something good for the environment into something that's not, it just wouldn't be America god damnit.

It's too fucking sweet. This also proves that if he has enough money for that car, I can get a fucking raise.
27th May 2008 at 7:15 pm | permalink |Now I feel bad that you didn't get to drive the Jetta TDI when you were here.

28th May 2008 at 12:54 pm | permalink |Unfortunately, production has been delayed by a problem with the transmission. Here's hoping they get it fixed soon.
28th May 2008 at 3:35 pm | permalink |@DavidGX: Hey, at least give me ONE of the 11 you throw away, huh? C'mon. Pleeeeeeeeease?
@Dots: hehehe … I don't know if walking into his office and saying, "If you can afford that car, you can damn well afford to give me a raise," would really work. But I'd worship you from afar forever if you actually did it (and sent me a videotape of his reaction). ;-)
@Becca: Me too. heh. But on a *flat* road.
@Bruno: Pff. We don't even have Powerball up here.
@Kavan: Well, I've got a little bit yet before I've saved enough money to afford on, so they can take their time and make sure they get it just perfect before then. ;-)
28th May 2008 at 5:03 pm | permalink |Sure thing, if I win the lottery I'll buy us both one, lol.
28th May 2008 at 5:26 pm | permalink |Four seconds?
Heh.. I thought going 0 to 50 in second gear was a kick.
Pretty impressive what they're doing with these new electric engines. I saw a thing on the TV the other day about this electric-motor drag bike they're working on. No prep besides a tune up and wheel check, no rev-up before take off, and the acceleration pushes what the driver can physically handle.
It also makes about so little noise, you can probably hear the rider hollerin' half way down the track.

I love it.
29th May 2008 at 3:30 am | permalink |@DavidGX: Yay! Get buyin' them lottery tickets, boy!
@Adam: Yeah, I'd love to get one of those babies, and then drag race some redneck fuck in a Camaro … "Oooh, lookie, the electric hippie car not only kicks your ass, you can't even *hear* it over your smog belching beast!"
@Hellationships: Exactly. :-)
29th May 2008 at 1:16 pm | permalink |It's a nice girly car :)
30th May 2008 at 1:50 pm | permalink |Hehe it looks like Barbie's wet promdream… ))
30th May 2008 at 2:18 pm | permalink |@bill: I don't know about "girly" … most of the guys I tell about it, when I say "0-60 in 3.9 seconds" look like they're about to get a major erection. ;-)
(Then again, maybe that has something to do with how I'm saying it? ;-)
30th May 2008 at 4:05 pm | permalink |No, it's the look of the car. the 0-60 is right on, we do wet ourselves at that point! No it's the mere look of it, it's feminine looking, it's a girl's car. you should be jumpin' around now, it's not that common you babes having a car, it's usually male shit..))
30th May 2008 at 5:54 pm | permalink |@bill: I don't know about that … the other guys who've commented here seem to like it just fine. As did all the guys I've shown it to in person.
But then again, what do I know? I drive a Ford F250 … I'm sure that counts as a "boy's" vehicle, eh?
30th May 2008 at 7:08 pm | permalink |… also, I'm sure you might have noticed by now, I'm not the sort of person who answers to "you babes" or jumps around when some company condescends to market something to "us girls" either. ;-)
30th May 2008 at 7:12 pm | permalink |Yeah, I know :)
30th May 2008 at 8:42 pm | permalink |Damn nice looking ride. I don't think it's terribly girly looking - certainly not any more than say, a Lotus Elise or Exige. Once those things are out, I'm definitely going to have to work out a test drive!
4th June 2008 at 1:19 pm | permalink |@Eric: From the Wikipedia page about them:
So, that would explain the resemblance. ;-)
4th June 2008 at 1:55 pm | permalink |Also, they already are in production … the 2008 model was shipped with the dodgy transmission, but those cars will get their trannies replaced under warranty when they perfect the final transmission design.
4th June 2008 at 1:58 pm | permalink |Ok, I bow. It is a cool car. I hereby bend over in shame and utter embarrassment for not seeing it clearly at first :-(
14th June 2008 at 12:14 pm | permalink |I knew you'd see the light sooner or later. ;-)
