Before we return to serious ranting…

xkcd weather in centigrade

xkcd created a helpful "real world" guide to metric measurement for those of us still living firmly in the imperial world … but I gotta say, taking a good look at the temperature scale, it doesn't really resonate for me. So, in the spirit of the weather here STILL being too damn cold to start my truck in the morning (or at noon for that matter), I've created a revised Alaskan version.

Actually, two Alaskan versions … because seriously, 0ºC/32ºF is just not the same thing in June as in December…

And considering I had to go look up a proper Fahrenheit-to-Celsius/Centigrade table to even figure out what the conversions were (except for 0ºC/32ºF and -40ºC/F, which I remember), I'll include one of those too:

alaska weather in centrigrade
alaska weather in centigrade
 Centigrade   Fahrenheit
40ºC 104ºF
35ºC 95ºF
30ºC 86ºF
25ºC 77ºF
20ºC 68ºF
10ºC 50ºF
0ºC 32ºF
-5ºC 23ºF
-10ºC 14ºF
-20ºC -4ºF
-30ºC -22ºF
-40ºC -40ºF
-50ºC -58ºF

That ought to make just about anyone feel better about their weather. Last week, when it was actually down around -60ºF, I looked all over on online weather sites, trying to find somewhere that was colder than us. I found one town in Alaska that was the same temperature … but even Siberia was warmer.

Having done things in Celsius most of my life I find myself having to deal with Fahrenheit when I'm in the US. I've yet to find out what zero degrees F feels like though =:0

Can we just get more serious ranting? ;-)

Having a crappy day here and feeling angry … and smart.

Yeah, I never expected the cold weather to have this nicey effect on Alpha. The posts have been, dare I say, downright milquetoast-like, lately. But hey, I get it's fucking cold. I have an account in Anchorage and want get up there to see him…ok, I want some great Midnight Sun Brewing Barleywine but my day job gets in the way. I have a curiosity of just how cold 50 below is. Thinking of a Feb. visit…

See now, people bitch about me not tearing things to shreds … then I post more actual rants, and nobody comes to the party.

    *sulk*

Fine, I'll just go back to weather-blogging then.

So yeah, it got above 45 today. Elsewhere in the state it topped 47.

    However.

Cooking an egg on the footpath, still not doable.
Didn't have a black car available for testing, sadly.
